“In 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country, our banking system, our auto industry and possibly our health plans to the same nit-wits who couldn’t make money running a whore house and selling whiskey.” ~Anonymous
… the story sounds good, but in fact the government did okay, as evidenced by the Mustang Ranch Booth at the 2010 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in the photo directly above.
That’s the problem with these sharp little nuggets of wisdom that seem to tell us all we need to know about anything … they may reinforce preconceived notions, but that doesn’t mean what they tell us is true.

“I am not horrified by the rhetoric and love of violence on the far right because I have some attachment to the Democrats. I am horrified because it is horrifying, because for years now, this kind of thing has become commonplace at the very top of the conservative political apparatus, and because the invocation of violence in a political context is inherently corrosive of democratic values. When you add to this a party committed to the use of military force as almost a first option, and to torture as a legal method of interrogation, it is irresponsible not to worry about where this is headed.”
“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded – here and there, now and then – are all the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is pretty cool:
You can read the rest – background, explanations – here.
Think about it: here’s what you pay. Here’s the amounts/percentages.
Budget dollars aren’t being gobbled up by foreign aid, by NASA, NIH, or the National Parks …
… and, look how much is being “wasted” on the arts …
It’s all about Entitlements and Defense.
And no one in elected office dare suggest cutting any of it, ’cause all those people out there frothing at the mouth over “getting government out of lives” would shit a collective cow when they did … and vote them out of office.
